Timur Valiev (Dave Mandel/Sherdog)WOSF 23 Finalized With Addition of Two New Bouts José Youngs August 12, 2015 Events, News, Spotlight, WSOF With the addition of bantamweight battle between Timur “Lucky” Valiev and Tito Jones as well a lightweight contest between Brian Foster and LaRue Burley, World Series of Fighting has officially finalized the main card of the upcoming WSOF 23: Gaethje vs. Palomino. II. “We are looking forward to another incredible night of action, now that the main card for WSOF 23 is complete with five bouts featuring an exciting mix of championship fights and matchups filled with accomplished veterans and some of the world’s best prospects,” stated WSOF President Ray Sefo. The 25-year-old Valiev (9-1) of Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia will enter this bout riding a nine fight win streak. This run of success includes three victories in the World Series of Fighting decagon cage. In his last effort at WSOF 19 on March 28, Valiev waled away with a first round knockout over Ed West. Jones (11-7), a native of Panama City, Fla., a two-time regional Golden Gloves boxing champion and former protégé of boxing trainer Roy Jones, Sr, has never been knocked out over the course of a 9-year professional career that has spanned 18 bouts. Foster (22-7) of Sallisaw, Okla, has notched 20 of his 22 career victories by way of knockout or submission. SOme of his victims include current UFC standout Matt Brown, whom Foster forced to tap out from a guillotine choke in the second round of their matchup on Nov. 20, 2010. He will look to now rebound from a defeat at the hands of former UFC title contender Jake Shields. The setback snapped Foster’s four-fight win streak that Foster had Burley (6-0) of Phoenix, has yet to be taste over the course of six professional starts and two amateur bouts, a run that includes six wins by either TKO or submission. Burley has earned six victories during a professional run that began with a unanimous decision win over Kelly Osser and also includes a third round TKO punches over 2011 NCAA Division I National Wrestling Champion Bubba Jenkins. WSOF 23 is currently set to take place on Sept. 18. at Comerica Theatre in Downtown Phoenix. A lightweight championship rematch between reigning champion Justin Gaethje and Luis Palominio will serve as the main event while a light heavyweight title fight between David Branch and Teddy Holder will appear in the co-main event.
