Unlike other professional sports, there is no offseason in combat sports. Week in and week out, fight cards all over the world are taking place. Some weeks there will be major fight cards filled with big name fighters others not so much, but there are fights taking place every week.

Regardless of whether the fighters are household names or not, The MMA Corner will preview the best fight taking place during the week.

This week’s Fight of the Week is the WSOF lightweight title rematch between champion, Justin Gaethje, and challenger, Luis Palomino.

On Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, the World Series of Fighting head to Comerica Theatre in Phoenix for WSOF 23: Gaethje vs. Palomino II.

In a rematch from an instant classic at WSOF 19 back in March, Gaethje and Palomino will once again take to the cage to battle it out of the lightweight title. Their first meeting was a back-and-forth battle of wills that ultimately saw Gaethje score the TKO late in the third round. This time, however, Palomino is determined to see a different outcome.

A grizzled veteran with 13 of his 23 career wins by knockout Palomino entered their first meeting on the heels of back-to-back brutal knockout victories. But while he was able to put Gaethje in trouble at times Palomino couldn’t put the champion away and eventually succumbed to Gaethje’s pressure.

Still undefeated in his career with 12 of his 14 career wins by stoppage, Gaethje is hungry to build on his last performance. Palomino really brought the fight to the champion in their first meeting and tested Gaethje’s mettle.

This should be an excellent bout as both men have the ability to the fight with one shot and both men are desperate to improve on their previous performance.
