A heavyweight contest between Josh Barnett and Ben Rothwell has officially been added to UFC on FOX 18 in Newark, New Jersey. The UFC announced the booking on Tuesday’s edition of FOX Sports Live..

Barnett (34-7), a former UFC heavyweight champion, will be looking to make it two straight inside the Octagon since returning from his two year hiatus from competition. In his most recent effort, “The Warmaster” earned a dominant decision over Roy Nelson at UFC Fight Night 75 in September.

This marked his first appearance inside the Octagon since suffering first round knockout loss to Travis Browne in November 2013. He had previously picked up back-to-back stoppage wins over Nandor Guelmino and a fellow former UFC champion Frank Mir. Barnett will enter this bout with 28 career stoppage wins, including 20 by way of submission.’

Rothwell (35-9) was originally scheduled to meet Stipe Miocic in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 76 before an injury forced Mioic out of the bout. As a result, Rothwell was pulled from the card all togehter. Against Barnett, “Big Ben” will be looking to make it four straight inside the octagon, with his most recent being first round submission over Matt Mitrione on June.

This not only marked his first submission win since 2007 but also gave ‘Big Ben’ his third straight stoppage win after scoring back-to-back knockouts over former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem and Brandon Vera.

UFC on FOX 18 is currently scheduled to take place January 30 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. A light heavyweight fight between top contenders Anthony Johnson and Ryan Bader will serve as the main event.
