When RFA hosted their very first event on December 16th, 2011, in Kearney Neb, fight fans knew that this promotion could be something special. After all, their first ever main event was Jens Pulver vs Tim Elliot. However, they proved that they were not a one-and-done promotion and continued to wow fans with two more solid events. Though they were putting on good fights and they were certainly making a name for themselves in the MMA industry, RFA still knew that they were missing something; they need some direction, they needed leadership. That is when they would turn to Ed Soares. Soares was well established in the MMA community and with his well-honed business sense as a former night club promoter, it only made sense.

The rest, you could say, is history. Soares immediately created his team consisting of Sven Bean, Ryan Bevins and Mark Bieri. Together the foursome has grown RFA into the top developmental promotion in the country, sending nearly 30 fighters to the UFC already.

On Friday January 15th, live from the 1st Bank Center, Broomfield, CO, RFA brings us RFA 34 Smith vs. Velickovic for the vacant welterweight title. Josh Davis of TheMMACorner.com and Press Box Insider sat down with RFA President Ed Soares and Ryan Bevins, Director of Communications, to get their thoughts and breakdown RFA 34.
