On Friday, January 16, the Invicta Fighting Championships touched down in Costa Mesa, California to bring fight fans tInvicta FC 15 live from the The Hangar at OC Fair and Event Center.

In the night’s main event, featherweight champion Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino put her 145-pound title on the line against Russian newcomer Daria Ibragimova

Cyborg (14-1, 1 NC entered this bout having finished all four Invicta opponents by way of knockout. In her most recent outing, the Brazilian walked away with 45-second victory of Faith Van Duin at Invicta FC 13. This bested her previous 46-second TKO vin over Charmaine Tweet earlier in the year. Ibragimova (9-1), came into the bout on a seven-fight winning streak, with five first-round submissions and a first-round TKO during that stretch.

In the night’s co-main event Livia Renata Souza looked to defend her strawweight title against fellow undefeated fighter DeAnna Bennett.

The 24-year-old Souza (8-0) made her debut for the organization at Invicta FC 12 in April, unseating former champion Katja Kankaanpaa with a fourth-round submission to capture Invicta FC gold. Bennett (8-0) had strung together wins over tough competition in 2015, beating Norma Rueda Center and Katja Kankaanpaa en route to her shot at the 115-pound title.

Referee, Big John get the fighters to meet in the middle, but not touch gloves before the fight starts. “Cyborg” gets a loud cheer from the audience in the introduction. Fights starts and Daria goes for a single leg and works for a takedown. Cyborg grabbed the fence for  a second. Cybord elbows her with one leg in the arms of Daria who doesn’t let go. Eats some shots for her efforts.Cyborg keeps elbowing standing up gets down for a brief moment but gets back on her ONE feet, Daria has still not let go of the leg. Cyborg keeps jumping around, gets close to go down, but never fully gets taken down. Now half the round in and Daria lets go and they stand in the middle of the cage. Body shot from Cyborg lands, now knees that lands flush. Daria runs away from danger. They face of in the middle, Daria has some marks on her face, goes for a takedown but gets defended without great effort by Cyborg, who misses with a head-kick, and Daria goes for another single-leg against the cage. Cyborg is throwing combination on one leg. Now hard elbows. Cyborg get taken down for a second, gets back up, lands a HARD straight right hand less then ten seconds before the round ends and Daria is out cold. Fight over.

The undefeated fighters gets introduced in the middle of the cage, touch gloves, before their five round championship fight starts. Round starts with Renata taking control of the cage, Bennet takes it back back, making Renata circle around . Bennett eats a hard overhand right, she takes it well. Renata lands another overhand right, but Bennett takes it for the second, but eats a rough body shot shortly after that takes her down, Renata goes for the kill and finish the fight with ground strikes before the referee calls off the fight.

Raquel Pa’aluhi vs. Colleen Schneider

Great reaction from the audience for this fight. However, the fight gets a little delayed since the ambulance needs to return before the fight can start off. – ~10 min later  – It finally starts off, Raquel  throws a leg-kick. They are in the middle of the cage, and Raquel goes for a takedown against the fence, but Colleen defends it well, Raquel throws a right hand on the break. And Raquel has already started bleeding from the bridge of her nose it seems.Raquel goes for another takedown and gets it, but eats a up-kick to the face for her efforts. Colleen gets tied up again against the fence, eats some knees. Colleen throws a hard strike, they are in the middle of the cage again. Colleen throws a leg-kick that find its target. Raquel keeps wiping the blood from her eyes to see better, it could be bothering her. Coleen and Raquel exchange some jabs, and Colleen throws a spin-kick that lands on the body, and Raquel goes for a takedown again that gets defended and they run together up against the fence. Raquel throws some hands that sneaks their way in.  30 seconds left of the round and Colleen goes for a kick that Raquel catch and takes her back, and lands strikes from the back of Colleen, round one over.

Round two tarts and Colleen takes cage-control, throws a kick that Raquel catch again, goes for a takedown but they keep standing while she has the back of Colleen, Raquel switches to the front and get the takedown, but Colleen gets it right back to the feet. Raquel goes for another double-leg takedown, But Colleen is strong and defends it. Colleen throws a spinning back-fist that lands on Raquel who herself throws a straight right as a counter that lands on the face of Colleen, and they are back against the fence with Raquel in the dominant position, throwing some punches and knees. Dirtyboxing. They separate and Colleen throws an kick to the knee of Raquel, and you can notice Raquel has a big swelling on her left eye from an earlier knee from Colleen. They are moving around with Raquel staking her opponent. The round ends.

It starts of, touch hands and they start throwing in the middle of the cage. A lot misses for both, Colleen lands a hard punch on Raquel who goes for a takedown, gets it, but Colleen gets back on her feet.  Colleen seems to be landing the harder shots in this fight so far. Raquel gets her leg when she goes for another spin-kick, and Raquel keeps the pressure against the cage, and gets the takedown this time without Colleen immediately getting back to her feet, immediately, but she do get back up after few seconds, Raquel has problem keeping this fight on the ground after working hard to get it to the ground. Colleen lands a hard kick against the legs of Raquel and a left hook to the face. Raquel goes for another takedown when a minute is left on the clock, this time it was telegraphed. They are back to the middle of the cage. Raquel seem to be the one who s in a hurry, lands some good leg kicks just before the end of the fight.

Amber Brown vs. Shino VanHoose

Brown lands a stiff hard jab on Shino, they end up against the cage, Shino pulled guard for a quick second before bailing on it before going to the ground and lands a quick knee to the body of Brown instead, who herself goes for a standing arm-triangle, but bails on it quick. They are tangled up against the cage, fighting for position. Brown seems to be physically stronger in the clinch. They get to the ground after Shinos head is being trapped underneath the arms of Brown. On the ground Brown keeps her guillotine choke, and Shino tries but cant work her way out, and after just a few seconds, gives the tap in round one.

Mizuki Inoue vs. Lacey Schuckman

Fights starts of with Lacey getting the clinch and gets a takedown against the cage. Mizuki tries to scramble but Lacy ends up in side-control.  Lacy gets the back, but Mizuki stays calm and gets back to her feet and gets her own takedown, this time she ends up on top. Working from halfgurd of Lacey, trying to knee-slide to mount and gets it, and tries to get her back but ends up on the mat with her own back, going quickly for a armbar that looks dangerous for Lacey who defends it and scrambles out of it, and gets Mizuki in a invert triangle. Both fighters take a moment to catch their breath. Mizuki looked to be tapping for a second but worked her head out and is now in perfect position to work for another armbar try, that looks deep with 30 seconds left on the clock. Lacy gets out of Mizukis attack, works her way back up on her feet. Lacy lands a straight right right after the bell.

Round two starts and they meet up in the middle of the cage, kicks thrown from both and Lacy gets pushed back to the cage and Mizuki attacks, keeps being aggressive. Throwing a combination, gets Lacey in a beautiful judo-throw that ends with her in side-control, for the third time in the fight. She elbows and throw punches from the position, goes to full mouth and throw hay-makers that makes Lacey cover up with her hands in-front of her face, the referee keeps close by, Mizuki goes for her back and keeps attacking with punches. Lacey has her face bloodied up by Mizuki who doesn’t let go of the back-control, who tries for another armbar against the cage. Mizuki was on her back for a second after that try but gets top control immediately and starts raining down punches, Lacey goes for a heel-hook that Mizuki spins out of. Lacey throws elbows from the bottom, sweeps Mizuki, who losses position for just a split second before gaining it back. Lacey has been the one on the defense this round.

They meet in the middle again in round three. Mizuki uses a lot of footwork, Lacey has slowed down noticeably, but throws some heavy hands that just touches air, and Mizuki punches her way to get Lacey against the cage, and goes for a single leg takedown, brings it to the ground but Lacey ends up having her in a guillotine. Mizuki stays patient with her head on the canvas from up-top. She is in Lacey’s half-guard and works her way free from the submission attempt from Lacey, ending up in full mount. Throwing left-hands from the top that keeps landing hard on the face of Lacey who keeps moving around, showing the referee that she is still in this fight. Mizuki moves for another armbar attempt, working with 90 seconds on the clock left in the round. She gets it after Lacey trying to defend it, but fails.

Angela Hill vs. Alida Gray

Big John the referee starts the fight off and they touch gloves. Exchanging some right hands with jabs . Hill takes the center of the cage, Hill seems to be taking control of the action early, making Gray stay on the defensive in the striking exchanges. Hill lands another Right, left hand ends the combination with a kick. Hill lands a hard right hand, Gray covers up, Hill overwhelms Gray with knees and strikes to the point of John referee having to drag Hill away, fights ends.

Megan Anderson vs. Amber Leibrock

They meet in the middle of the cage, feeling each other out, Megan makes Amber back up but Amber tries to push back, they throw hands. Amber lands a punch that takes Megan back, forcing her to the cage. But Megan gives one hard back that forces Amber back. Amber bleeds from her nose after they collide. They are up against the cage with Megan keeping the pressure with under-hooks, trying for a single-leg takedown, but Amber defends well with her back against the cage. Big John separates them when 90 seconds are left in the round, Megan takes the initiative and forces Amber to the cage again, keeping pressure, slowing down the action of Amber. They trade knees and lock up, Megan goes for another takedown, however, Amber keeps good defense, and the round is over.

Round Two, and Megan takes octagon control immediately, punching forward. Gets some nice jabs in with her leg-kicks and pushes Amber to the cage. Up against the fence, Megan seems to be the one in control, trading some dirty boxing in close quarters. Amber looks up to the clock when its 3 minutes left on the round, and Big John separates them again, with Megan keeping the pressure as her advantage with high kicks and high output on her offense, forcing Amber once again to the fence, and Anderson starts throwing more attacks, but Amber switches it up and goes for a takedown herself that gets defended, and Megan has Amber on the fence once again with some sneaky muay thai attacks up against the cage. Amber’s nose is bloody up again. Amber eats a hard punch in the late seconds of round two, and it should be Anderson up two rounds to one going in to the third.

Doctor takes a quick look at Amber before start of round 3. Anderson comes out aggressive, and they are once again up against the cage. Amber goes for a trip but is the one who ends with her back on the mat. Amber starts climbing her legs up, ties Megan up, leaving only her legs free, which she uses to knee Amber. Megan pulls out an they are both back on her feet, Megan lands a nice head-kick quickly that Amber eats. Amber looks to be overwhelmed from Megan throwing a jab and a few knees that landed to the body and head, and the fight ends shortly after with Amber falling to the ground as the referee comes between them.
