A welterweight battle between the heavy-handed Matt Brown and submission specialist Demian Maia has officially been added to UFC Fight Night 87 in May.

UFC officials announced the fight Monday afternoon.

Maia (21-6), a former UFC middleweight title contender, is coming off a dominant decision win over Gunnar Nelson at UFC 194 in December. Prior to this performance, the Brazilian walked away with a submission win over the red-hot Neil Magny at UFC 190 in August. This win not only extended the Brazilian’s win streak to three straight but also marked his seventh submission win under the UFC banner, the third most in the promotion’s history.

Brown (20-13) will be looking to extend his win streak to two-straight after finishing Tim Means by submission in the first round of their UFC 189 fight in July. Prior to this win, “The Immortal” dropped back-to-back decisions to current and former champions Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks in title eliminatiors after going on an unprecedented seven-fight win streak which included six-finishes by (T)KO.

UFC Fight Night 87 is currently scheduled to take place May 14 at a yet to be named venue in Brazil.
