In the co-main event at UFC on Fox 19, street life comes to town in the guise of Rose “Thug” Namajunas. Her stripe earner; put a thugging, mugging beatdown on her adversary, Tecia “The Tiny Tornado” Torres.

These two met once before back in 2013 when they both fought for women-only (females based in the USA) MMA promotion Invicta FC. That time, it was Torres who took home the spoils by way of unanimous decision.

Almost three years have passed, and both have up their game exponentially and evolved in equal measure.

In December 2014, Namajunas debuted for the UFC, with the women’s 115-pound belt on the line. That night it wasn’t to be, as she succumbed to a rear-naked choke submission courtesy of former divisional champ Carla Esparza. Since that loss, she’s been on a tear — submitting both poster girl Paige VanZant and Angela Hill.

Moreover, the 23-year-old GTC product has been honing her already impressive jiu-jitsu skills, which spells bad news for Torres.

To date, (4-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) all four of Namajunas’ victories have come by way of submission; a trio of rear-naked chokes and a flying armbar.

Conversely, Torres who is predominantly a stand-and-bang merchant, made her promotional debut on the same card as her rival, defeating Angela Magana via unanimous decision.

The American Top Team fighter is currently undefeated, and riding a seven-fight win-streak in all competitions, though, all have come by way of unanimous decision.

The 26-year-old Torres will want to keep this standing in order to execute her pin-point striking, whilst hoping she can eke-out (worst case scenario) another decision victory.

Namajunas on the other hand, will be hell-bent on taking the fight to the mat, and that’s what she’ll do eventually after negating Torres’ attacks — street fight her way to the ground. And when that happens, it’s submission city.

The “Thug” Namajunas’ surge to the apogee of the strawweight division will continue via rear-naked choke.
