Striking 10/10

A multi-time world champion kickboxer, Thompson is one of the best strikers in the sport today. His combination of speed, power, and technical precision make Thompson a very dangerous man. One of his greatest weapons on the feet is his incredible understanding of range and his ability to adjust his attacks to fit the situation.

Wrestling/Grappling 7/10

Thompson’s balance and understanding of range make him a very difficult fighter to take down, but he simply isn’t an offensive grappler; nor does he need to be because of his brilliant striking prowess. If Thompson wants to round out his game and become a more complete fighter, he will have to improve his offensive wrestling at some point.

Submissions 7/10

A purple belt under the great Carlos Machado, Thompson’s submission game is still very early in its development. It’s unlikely that Thompson will ever become a submission specialist, but as he continues to advance his skills under Machado, we could see more submission wins accumulate on his record as many submissions in MMA come when a fighter has first been stunned with a strike; something Thompson is more than adequate at.

Athleticism/Conditioning 8/10

While not an otherworldly athlete ,Thompson is above average. He’s fast, possesses great balance and has never shown signs of deficient conditioning during a bout.

Fight IQ 9/10

Thompson grew up a traditional martial artist and it’s clear he has a deep understanding of the fight game. He knows what he does well and he consistently plays to his strengths regardless of what is opponent is trying to do; that is the mark a high IQ fighter.

Overall 41/50
