UFC Fight Night 90 Scouting Report: Eddie Alvarez RJ Gardner July 4, 2016 Events, Previews, Spotlight, UFC Name – Eddie Alvarez Current Age – 32 Record – 27-4 Weight Class – Lightweight (155 pounds) Height – 5’7” Reach – 69” Team/Gym – Blackzilians Striking 8/10 Gritty and tough with a strong technical base Alvarez is known for his ability on the feet. It may not be pretty at times but his ability to find success in technical exchanges and brawls make him a unique talent on the feet. Generally, a fighter is either technical or they are brawlers; Alvarez is that rare breed who can walk both paths. Wrestling/Grappling 8/10 An excellent prep wrestler Alvarez’s grappling prowess is vastly underrated. Between his solid base ad superior balance Alvarez looks to use his wrestling ability in reverse to keep the fight on the feet. Even though he doesn’t look to take the fight to the ground often he has tools to keep his opponents off balance. Submissions 7/10 Alvarez is an extremely well-rounded fighter but the submission game is where his skill set lacks depth. He is technically sound offensively and he has OK defense but he can be exposed against elite level grapplers if the fight gets to the ground. Athleticism/Conditioning 8/10 An above average athlete with solid conditioning Alvarez is able to compete at a high level through five hard rounds if need be. He isn’t going to win a fight on athleticism alone like the elite athletes in the sport but he will have either a speed or power advantage over most lightweight opponents. Fight IQ 7/10 Alvarez has been in the fight game for a long time now – over 13 years of professional experience – but he takes too much punishment and he looks to dog fight far too often. Up until this point in his career his toughness has held up but eventually all the wars will catch up with him. Overall 38/50
