Conor McGregor (José Youngs/The MMA Corner)Who Will Be Conor McGregor’s Next Challenge? The MMA Corner Staff November 1, 2017 Events, News, Promotions, Sports Betting, Spotlight, UFC UFC’s Conor McGregor not only shocked the combat world but the world in general as he went toe to toe with boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather Jnr, in his first ever professional boxing bout. The fight had been on the cards for a while, with both McGregor and Mayweather trading blows through the media; but it was Mayweather who came out on top in the ring as expected. So who and what is next for Conor McGregor? Will he return to the octagon or will he be looking to set up another fight in the boxing ring? The Irishman has been inundated with offers since the Mayweather bout from both the UFC and boxing worlds; but right now a title unification fight against the current lightweight interim champion of the UFC, Tony Ferguson, seems to be the most likely match up. McGregor himself has hinted that talks are underway with Ferguson and his camp but he hasn’t ruled out possible alternatives should discussions break down. McGregor last fought in the UFC nearly a year ago after beating Eddie Alvarez, therefore becoming the first ever champion at two weight divisions simultaneously. Another exciting proposition for “The Notorious” would be to take on Nate Diaz for the third time, dubbed “The Diaz Trilogy.” It would be a chance for McGregor to defend his belt but to also put the whole Diaz situation to bed. Diaz made McGregor submit in their first bout before the Irishman went on to win by majority decision the second time around. McGregor would certainly fancy his chances against Diaz in their third and final fight. Other potential fights that have been suggested would possibly see McGregor come up against either Khabib Nurmagomedov or Tyron Woodley. The likelihood as things stand, though, is that McGregor will be back in the octagon rather than the boxing ring this time around and it seems that a unification fight against Tony Ferguson will happen should talks progress as expected. If not, it’s likely that next up for consideration would be a third and final showdown against bitter rival Nate Diaz. Either way, people will be betting on McGregor to bring his own unique twist to the pre-fight hype. Sports betting giants such as Unibet are already offering prices on the outcomes of potential fights involving The Notorious Conor McGregor. As it stands McGregor would head into “The Diaz Trilogy” as the heavy favorite and would also be seen as having a slight edge in a unification fight against interim champion Tony Ferguson. However, against Nurmagomedov and McGregor can’t be split price wise and it’s likely that Tyron Woodley would start as the slight favorite if the pair were to meet in the octagon. McGregor is a big name, not just in the UFC world but now it seems he’s one of the most popular fighters to compete in combat sports, ever. He really can take his pick, against UFC opponents as well as boxers it seems and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him back in the octagon for a while before making another money-spinning appearance in a boxing ring. Right now though, Tony Ferguson is in the sights of The Notorious.
