(Garrett Derr/The MMA Corner)UFC Fight Night 131 Predictions: Jimmie Rivera vs Marlon Moraes The MMA Corner Staff June 1, 2018 Events, News, Promotions, Spotlight, UFC UFC Fight Night 131 is coming up and it’s going to be an action-packed event. Jimmie Rivera has been undefeated since he joined UFC, and he’ll be up for a shot at the title if he wins against Marlon Moraes this week. It’s a very tight matchup, and it could be anyone’s game. So, if you’re thinking of betting on this fight, then you should certainly brush on your knowledge of both competitors. About the Fighters Jimmie Rivera got his start as a mixed martial artist at the young age of 2007. In his amateur career, he went undefeated before signing with Bellator in 2009. Over the next six years, he competed in various leagues including Ring of Combat and King of the Cage, as well as appearing in The Ultimate Fighter. In 2015, Rivera made his UFC debut against Marcus Brimage. It was an impressive introduction, as he defeated Brimage in a first-round knockout. In the years to follow, he continued to go undefeated – even against big names such as Thomas Almeida and Urijah Faber. Like Rivera, Marlon Moraes started fighting early. He started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training at just 15-years-old. His early career saw him compete in the World Series of Fighting and Xtreme Fighting Champions. In 2017, Moraes joined UFC and made his debut against Raphael Assunção. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as an impressive as introduction as Rivera’s as he lost via split decision. He has 20 wins under his belt, with five losses and one draw. Who’s the Favorite? In most UFC matchups, one fighter is considered to be the better athlete, but this isn’t the case with Rivera and Moraes. In fact, it’s such a close fight that William Hill is offering the exact same odds of 10/11 on both fighters. This is predicted to be a stand-up battle, and we won’t see much grappling in this matchup. Moraes is known to be an active fighter who is quick on his feet and he is known for throw blows from the outside. Rivera’s strength is his output, so we’re sure to see him get involved with Moraes, tangled up in his opponent’s outside punches and kicks. However, we must wonder if he be quick enough to land many significant strikes. While Rivera has fewer total matches under his belt, he still has the better record. Moraes has more losses in his career as an MMA fighter, and Rivera has taken down some powerful competitors. So, while an analysis of their skills may point to a Moraes victory, history may just continue to repeat itself for Rivera, who has never lost a match.
