Amanda Nunes (Josh Davis/The MMA Corner)Amanda Nunes v Holly Holm The MMA Corner Staff May 13, 2019 Events, News, Promotions, Spotlight, UFC UFC 239 is set to host the Women’s Bantamweight title clash between defending champion Amanda Nunes and Holly Holm. This will be the Co-main event, and is a very exciting fight, taking place on Saturday 6th July. The fight is set to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with many of the best sports betting apps covering the fight. Here we cover the credentials of the two fighters heading into the clash in just a few months’ time. Amanda ‘Lioness’ Nunes At 30 years of age, she has now established herself as the leading female fighter in the sport, and to many she is the greatest ever. She fights out of the American top team, who continue to have a lot of success with a number of champions coming through. The Brazilian has a professional fighting record of 17 wins, with just four losses, since her debut back in 2008. She made her appearance in the UFC at UFC 163 in 2013, extending her record to 8 wins and three loses. Since then Nunes has lost just one fight in the UFC at UFC 178, via a TKO loss to Cat Zingano. Nunes has transformed since then, in becoming one of the most dominating champions in the history of the UFC. She has beaten a list of stars including Miesha Tate, Raquel Pennington and of course Ronda Rousey. The incredible stoppage of the latter was the moment she really shot onto the scene as the star of Women’s MMA. The two victories against Valentina Shevchenko are also incredibly impressive, considering bar those defeats, Shevchenko has not lost a fight since back in 2010, which was also her only other professional defeat. Nunes is also now coming off a stunning first-round knockout of the previous pound for pound king Cris Cyborg, which was her first defeat since her debut back in 2005. Holly ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ Holm At 37 years of age, she is coming to the latter stages of her career, but there is little doubt she has been one of the greats in terms of Women’s fighters. Prior to turning to MMA she was a multiple-time World Champion boxer, in which she defended her titles 18 times across three weight classes. This saw her voted the Ring magazine fighter of the year on two occasions and is still ranked inside the top ten by BoxRec for the greatest female boxers of all time. Holm is most remembered for her stunning stoppage of previous champion Ronda Rousey at UFC 193, which saw her capture the bantamweight title in front of a record-breaking crowd. This was also the first loss of Rousey’s career. Since then however, she has lost four of her next six fights. Holm still has an impressive professional record of 12 wins and four losses, and fights out of Jackson-Wink MMA. She is entering this fight following a decision victory at UFC 225 over Megan Anderson, so expectations will be high that she can pull of the shock victory over the Champion.
