Douglas Lima (top) (Keith Mills/Sherdog)Bold Fight Predictions The MMA Corner Staff March 16, 2020 News MMA is the most exciting sport right now hands down. What makes MMA as a sport so awesome is that the fight promoters and the fighters can choose their fights. Every other sport goes by a schedule that comes out before the season starts and then there are playoffs where different scenarios can come up. Another difference is that in other sports, there are conferences so you’ll never be able to see a world championship game between two teams in the same conference. In mixed martial arts, any fight can be made. One thing that is a dream for fans is for there to be cross-promotions between the UFC and Bellator. The UFC clearly has better talent overall, but Bellator has some stars too. With ex UFC fighters there and fighters that never fought in the UFC like Douglas Lima, they draw their own respective crowds and PPV buys. One Could Only Dream With the threat of no more UFC fights because of the coronavirus and Bellator getting canceled tonight, we might not be able to watch fights. So it seems like a good time to fantasize about some fights. Douglas Lima vs Kamaru Usman: Okay, this one’s 99% never happening. Dana White doesn’t do cross-promotions in MMA. The Conor vs Floyd fight was Boxing and Dana White is a boxing promoter at heart. This would be a welterweight unification fight for the ages. We’ll see how Douglas does against Gregard Mousasi. If he can hold his own against him, I’d give him a better chance against Kamaru. I’m just not sure if he could handle Usman’s wrestling. Conor McGregor vs Jorge Masvidal: Here’s our bold prediction! The UFC hasn’t booked Conor with Justin Gaethje. They also haven’t booked Jorge Masvidal vs Kamaru Usman. Kamaru is injured and he might not be back as soon as we expected. Conor is going to get ready to sub in for Tony Ferguson or Khabib Nurmagomedov if someone falls out of the fight. I think that fight happens and then Conor fights Jorge Masvidal. Jon Jones vs Francis Ngannou: Okay this one is a stretch but I’m feeling bold! Jon Jones is going to be his next opponent whoever that may be. Francis Ngannou is gonna knockout Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Stice might retire and so might DC. If that happens I guarantee Francis Ngannou is are gonna fight for the vacant Heavyweight Championship Battle for the MMA Throne. Darren Till vs Yoel Romero: This one will never happen because the UFC wants an English superstar in Darren Till. He’s already booked against Robert Whittaker who was the middleweight champion. And that’s after winning 1 middleweight fight; albeit against top-ranked Kelvin Gastelum (who went 5 rounds with Israel Adesanya). Darren has said that he’s scared of Yoel but I think he also has been smart in promoting that fight ironically. Dan Hardy vs Anyone: Joe Rogan said on his podcast that Dan Hardy still wants to fight. Dan just posted on his Instagram with the hashtag “ready for whatever may come.” So he may be eyeing a UFC return. Dan has a great career as a UFC commentator and mixed martial arts analyst.
