Anticipation continues to build ahead of one of the biggest events of the year, as Khabib returns with another defence of his lightweight title at UFC 254. The event is taking place on October 24th and is another to take place on Fight Island. This being at the Flash forum on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. Khabib Nurmagomedov will be headlining the event, as he takes on interim champion, Justin Gaethje. Khabib is the short-priced betting favourite and has continued to come under support, which is little surprise looking at his remarkable unbeaten record. There are also many other leading fights on the card, such as the middleweight clash between Robert Whittaker and Jared Cannonier. If the latter can pick up the victory, then this will set him up for a title shot against champion Israel Adesanya. Other fights include the heavyweight clash between Alexander Volkov and Walt Harris and a lightweight bout between Islam Makhackev and Rafael dos Anjos. Also, on the card will be the rescheduled fight between Zabit Magomedsharipov and Yair Rodriguez. The latter pulled out and a replacement is now being sorted. This all set’s up for one of the best cards of the year, with many expecting Khabib to extend of his unbeaten career record.

Khabib enters the fight with an unbeaten record of 28 wins without loss. The 32-year-old will also be making his 13th appearance in the UFC and first since September of 2019. He is currently sitting second in the pound for pound rankings behind Jon Jones but for many is the number one. Khabib has been so dominant throughout his career, that includes wins against Rafael dos Anjos, Edson Barboza, Dustin Poirier and of course Conor McGregor. The latter still standing as the biggest fight in the history of the UFC.

Justin Gaethje could just provide the greatest threat that Khabib has faced throughout his lengthy career. The 31-year-old has a record of 22 wins and just two losses and enters the fight on a four-fight winning run. This includes victories over James Vick, Edson Barboza, Donald Cerrone and Tony Ferguson. The latter was a very impressive victory, which has now set him up for this shot of the title and at ending the incredible winning run of Khabib.
