Cris “Cyborg” Santos likely to fight next in Brazil

After a year out of action, Cris Cyborg is now reportedly an unrestricted free agent after failing to come to terms with Strikeforce’s new ownership, Zuffa.  Now, sources say the reigning Strikeforce women’s middleweight champion is headed to Brazil for a fight on Aug. 6.  Her opponent is not yet known.

Pennsylvania Commission overturns Oliveira vs. Lentz, declaring the fight a no-contest

Referee Chip Snider has already come under fire for missing the call at UFC Live 4, where Charles Oliveira threw an illegal knee strike to opponent Nik Lentz, and finished Lentz shortly thereafter via rear-naked choke.  At least now, thanks to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission, the missed call will not negatively impact Lentz’s record anymore.  The commission overturned the outcome of the bout, ruling it a no-contest.

Bellator 51 to feature Season 5 bantamweight tournament quarterfinals

The opening round bouts of Bellator’s season five bantamweight tournament will take place on Sept. 24 and air live on MTV2.  Bellator officials announced the quarterfinal match-ups on Tuesday evening.  Current Bellator featherweight champion Joe Warren will attempt to capture a second Bellator belt, as he takes on Alexis Vila in one of the night’s tourney bouts.  The other contests in the bracket will see Eduardo Dantas against Joe Soto, Luiz Nogueira fight Ed West and Chase Beebe square off with Marcos Galvao.  The event takes plavce at Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada.

Bellator hosts open tryouts on July 16 in New Jersey

Bellator is hosting another set of open tryouts, with the winner earning a guaranteed spot on an upcoming Bellator event.  This time the tryouts take place in Cherry Hill, N.J., on July 16.  Daddis Fight Camps will host the tryouts, with registration at 1 p.m. ET and the tryouts beginning at 2 p.m. ET.  Only fighters from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware will be eligible to win a spot on a future undercard, though fighters from other states are still welcomed to participate in the tryouts.

Ovince St. Preux fights Joe Cason at Strikeforce Challengers 17

OSP returns to the Challengers series against Cason in a light heavyweight fight.  The fight is part of the main card of the July 22 event, which takes place in Las Vegas.

ProElite relaunches MMA promotion

They’re back.  The entity that brought Kimbo Slice to its very own EliteXC fight promotion has announced that it will host an event at the Blaisdell Arena in Waikiki, Oahu, Hawaii on Aug.27.  ProElite is now owned by Stratus Media Group Inc. and recently added former Strikeforce matchmaker Rich Chou and former ICON owner T.J. Thompson to its staff.

Kimbo Slice to make pro boxing debut

And if mentioning Kimbo Slice once wasn’t enough, here’s some more news involving the UFC veteran: Slice is set to make his pro boxing debut in the four-round main event fight of an Aug. 13 event in Miami, Okla. It probably comes as no surprise that Gary Shaw will co-promote the event along with Tony Holden Promotions.
