Josh Thomson injured, out of Strikeforce bout with Maximo Blanco

A foot injury has forced former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson out of his Sept. 10 fight with Maximo Blanco.  The fight was to be part of the main card of Strikeforce’s Cincinnati show, which also features the semifinal bouts of the promotion’s heavyweight grand prix. It is not known whether a replacement opponent will be secured for Blanco.

Two light heavyweight showdowns confirmed for UFC 139

The UFC made official two light heavyweight match-ups for its Nov. 19 card.  Stephan Bonnar will lock horns with Kyle Kingsbury, while Ryan Bader squares off with Jason Brilz.

UFC 139 takes place in San Jose, Calif., and features a heavyweight title tile between champion Cain Velasquez and challenger Junior dos Santos.

Ryan Ford to face David Hulett at Aggression MMA event

Recent Bellator addition Ryan Ford (16-3) will look to add another win to his record when he fights David Hulett (17-9) on Sept. 16 in Edmonton.  The fight is scheduled for the latest event from Aggression MMA.

Josh Neer returns to UFC, fights Keith Wisniewski at UFC Live 6

A win last weekend over Blas Avena in the headliner of Superior Cage Combat 2 was enough to secure UFC veteran Josh Neer another go-around in the Octagon.  Neer will return on Oct. 1 at UFC Live 6 against Keith Wisniewski, another UFC vet receiving another shot with the UFC following a six-fight winning streak.

UFC 139 prelims to air on Spike

As is often the case for UFC pay-per-views, UFC 139 will receive the one-hour long “UFC Prelims” treatment on Spike TV.  No fights have been determined for the broadcast yet.

HDNet to air Strikeforce prelims and weigh-ins for two events

Strikeforce’s preliminary bouts finally have a television outlet.  HDNet will air the preliminary card and the weigh-ins for the Sept. 10 Strikeforce event, featuring the semifinals of the heavyweight grand prix, as well as the show featuring the tournament’s finals. Five fights are expected to air for the Sept. 10 event, including a light heavyweight showdown between former Strikeforce champ Rafael Cavalcante and promotional newcomer Yoel Romero Palacio.  Mike Kyle, Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos and Amanda Nunes are among the other competitors slated to the event’s prelims.
