Strikeforce Challengers 19 headliner Zwicker, prelim fighter Peoples forced out

Just days before Strikeforce Challengers 19, two of the event’s fighters have been forced to withdraw.

Strikeforce officials today announced that headliner Virgil Zwicker and preliminary card contestant Jerron Peoples have each suffered training injuries and have been scratched from the event.

Replacements are currently being sought for each slot.

Strikeforce Challengers 19 takes place Sept. 23 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.


Eric Schafer returns to the UFC, meets Aaron Simpson at UFC 136

After middleweight Nick Catone suffered an Achilles injury and was forced out of a planned UFC 136 fight with Aaron Simpson, UFC veteran Eric “Red” Schafer will return to the Octagon to take his place.  Schafer previously competed in the light heavyweight division, but has successfully made the drop to the 185-pound division.

UFC 136 takes place Oct. 8 from the Toyota Center in Houston.


Nik Lentz battles Mark Bocek at UFC 140

Lightweight grappling specialists Nik Lentz and Canada’s Mark Bocek have agreed to meet at the Dec. 10 UFC 140 event slated for Toronto.  The news was confirmed by UFC president Dana White.

Bocek returns to action for the first time since dropping a UFC 129 against rising contender Ben Henderson.  Lentz, meanwhile, has been out of action since a no contest versus Charles Oliveira in which he was the victim of an illegal knee strike.
