Dodson/Formiga Bout to Determine Next Flyweight Title Contender

Friday’s flyweight fight between John Dodson and Jussier “Formiga” da Silva is now officially a No. 1 contender fight for the 125-pound championship. Dodson makes his second trip back to flyweight after winning the bantamweight portion of The Ultimate Fighter 14 while Formiga looks to impress fans and UFC officials alike in his promotional debut.

Dodson and Formiga will face off on Friday as part of the main card of UFC on FX 5.


Charlie Brenneman, Four Others Released from Zuffa Contracts

Welterweight Charlie Brenneman announced via Twitter that he has been released from the UFC following a loss to Kyle Noke at UFC 152. Brenneman went 4-4 in his UFC tenure, including a memorable win over Rick Story in June 2011.

The UFC also handed walking papers to Eiji Mitsuoka, Michihiro Omigawa, Tommy Hayden and Walel Watson.

Darren Elkins vs. Steven Siler Rounds Out UFC 154 Fight Card

With the addition of featherweights Darren Elkins and Steven Siler to the preliminary card of UFC 154, the event scheduled for Nov. 17 in Montreal is now complete with 13 bouts. Both fighters are unbeaten as UFC featherweights and are certainly looking to establish themselves as championship contenders.

UFC 154 is headlined by the return of welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, who faces interim titlist Carlos Condit to determine the true king at 170 pounds.


World Series of Fighting Completes Lineup for Inaugural Event

The World Series of Fighting announced its complete fight card for the promotion’s first event. The Nov. 3 card will be headlined by former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski taking on Devin Cole, and also features notable former UFC fighters Miguel Angel Torres, Anthony Johnson and others.

The event takes place in Las Vegas and will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network.

Chris Beal and Shad Smith to Headline BAMMA USA’s Badbeat 7

After injuries to both original main-event combatants forced them from competition, BAMMA officials announced that its Badbeat 7 card on Oct. 12 will showcase bantamweights Chris Beal and Shad Smith in the headlining fight. Beal is undefeated in six professional fights and will look to extend that streak against a wily veteran in Smith who has faced off against Dominick Cruz and Duane Ludwig.

Badbeat 7 takes place in Commerce, Calif. and features middleweights Mike Jasper and Kyle Bolt in the co-main event.

John Michael Sheil vs. Faycal Hucin Added to Cage Warriors 49 Main Card

Cage Warriors’ first ever card from Wales will now feature a middleweight contest between John Michael Sheil and Faycal Hucin. The 8-0 Sheil earned two CWFC victories in 2011 and has since won four additional fights in other promotions. Faycal, meanwhile, is looking to bounce back from a loss to Victor Cheng back in April.

In related news, projected main-event participant John Phillips has withdrawn from the Cage Warriors card due to a hand injury. The event will take place on Oct. 27.
