Invicta FC 5: Gomes Injured; ‘Cyborg’ Now Faces Muxlow The MMA Corner Staff March 19, 2013 News Invicta Fighting Championships’ fifth event on April 5 has taken another hit. Brazilian featherweight Ediane Gomes has suffered a training injury and is out of a main card clash with former Strikeforce champion Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos. The pair were expected to meet for the right to take on top-ranked Marloes Coenen later in 2013. As a result, Australia’s Fiona Muxlow will now face off against the dangerous slugger, Santos. Muxlow, 6-2, last fought on New Year’s Eve at Dream 18, falling to Coenen by first-round armbar. Muxlow’s scheduled opponent, Julia Budd, is now without an opponent, but the promotion stated that the Canadian will remain on the card. As announced during the promotion’s fourth event, the April card will be headlined by two title fights. Recently crowned atomweight champion Jessica Penne will make the first defense of her belt against “The Karate Hottie” Michelle Waterson. Also, the promotion will crown its inaugural flyweight champion as Barb Honchak battles Brazilian Vanessa Porto. The event will emanate from the Ameristar Casino Kansas City in Kansas City, Mo. and air via pay-per-view on the promotion’s website.
