Charmaine Tweet Forced Off Invicta FC 6; Ediane Gomes Now Faces Tamikka Brents The MMA Corner Staff July 10, 2013 News The sixth event from Invicta Fighting Championships has hit a bit of a snag as Canadian featherweight Charmaine Tweet was unable to clear customs due to a visa problem and has been forced out of her planned bout with Ediane Gomes at the July 13 event. Tweet herself was a late replacement for countrywoman Julia Budd who was forced off the card due to injury just weeks ago. In place of Tweet against the Brazilian Gomes will be Invicta veteran Tamikka Brents on just days’ notice. The news was first reported here and was later confirmed by the promotion. Brents was already scheduled to fight on July 27 for the SCS promotion in Oklahoma. Invicta FC 6 is headlined by the promotion’s inaugural featherweight title fight between Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino and Marloes Coenen. The fight will be a rematch of a 2010 bout under the Strikeforce banner in which Cyborg won via third-round TKO. In addition to the main event, undefeated strawweights Ayaka Hamasaki and Claudia Gadelha face off to determine the No. 1 contender for Carla Esparza’s title. Another No. 1 contender will be determined on the card when Leslie Smith makes her flyweight debut against Brazilian Jennifer Maia. The winner will challenge current champion Barb Honchak later this year. The event airs live on pay-per-view on July 13 for $14.95, beginning at 8 p.m. CT. A four-fight preliminary card will stream free on Ustream starting at 6 p.m. CT. The full card is listed below.
