On Friday, Aug. 16, Resurrection Fighting Alliance held its ninth event from the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. It marked the upstart promotion’s first event in the Southern California region.

In the night’s main event, undefeated Brazilian Pedro Munoz clashed with UFC veteran Jeff Curran for the promotion’s bantamweight title. Curran was originally supposed to fight Sergio Pettis for the inaugural flyweight title at the last RFA event in Milwaukee, but was forced to withdraw at the last-minute due to personal issues. When Keoni Koch, Munhoz’s original opponent, bowed out due to injury, Curran was called on to step in on short notice in the 135-pound title tilt.

The remainder of the main card was littered with big-show veterans and promising prospects. TUF 17 veteran Kevin Casey faced off with undefeated middleweight Casey Ryan, TUF Live alum Jordan Rinaldi took on fellow featherweight Brian Ortega, two-time NCAA wrestling champion Steve Mocco faced off with Lew Polley at heavyweight, Strikeforce veteran Chris Spang met Alan Jouban at welterweight, and flyweights Matt Manzanares and Steve Swanson went to war.

The night’s six-fight main card was broadcast on AXS TV beginning at 10 p.m. ET. Three additional professional contests graced the preliminary card, which was un-aired.
