Welcome to The White Belt MMA Podcast, a weekly look at the biggest topics in the MMA world.

There’s a lot to talk about on this episode of The White Belt MMA Podcast! First, we’ll preview a few of the fights from tonight’s UFC Fight Night: Maia vs. Shields event, then review a few MMA headlines from the past week before recapping the most recent episode of The Ultimate Fighter and, as always, discuss Dale De Souza’s ongoing series, An Ultimate History, chronicling each of the 20 years of the UFC’s existence.

Which former middleweight—Maia or Shields—has the most to gain from a win tonight? Perhaps more importantly, which has the most to lose from a defeat? In an era of unexpected contract severances, could Erick Silva or Dong Hyun Kim be the next UFC fighters to be shown the door after a loss?

UFC heavyweight Ben Rothwell has been suspended for nine months, but not by a state athletic commission. We’ll cover that story and the return of UFC lightweight Jim Miller in the headlines portion of the show before delving into a double-standard brought about by a conversation during the most recent episode of The Ultimate Fighter.

Finally, we’ll talk about perhaps the most important event in UFC history—the company’s purchase by the partnership that would become Zuffa, LLC.—and the proven importance of Tito Ortiz to the company’s growth.

All of this and more will be covered in the latest episode of The White Belt MMA Podcast.

As always, follow the podcast on Twitter @mmapodcast and look for past episodes on The MMA Corner and iTunes.
