UFC’s Matt Brown: On The Edge Of Title Contention Justin Fuller November 5, 2013 UFC, Video There’s never been a better time for UFC welterweight Matt Brown than right now. A cast member of the seventh season of The Ultimate Fighter, Brown experienced many ups and downs prior to his entry into the reality series and even after his Octagon debut. He accumulated a 12-11 record from his pro debut in 2005 through the end of 2011, including a 5-5 mark inside the Octagon. However, things turned around for Brown beginning in 2012. He is now on a six-fight winning streak and is enjoying the most success of his career. He has even entered the discussion as a possible future contender for the belt that currently resides with champion Georges St-Pierre. After a stretch in which he finished five of six opponents via some form of knockout, Brown is now set to fight former UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit. The two square off on Dec. 14 at UFC on Fox 9. The event takes place at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif., and also features a lightweight championship showdown between Anthony Pettis and Josh Thomson. The MMA Corner’s Justin Fuller caught up with Brown while the welterweight contender was in Virginia Beach, Va., working on his ground game with Carlson Gracie black belt Carlos Carvalho at Olympus Fitness & Martial Arts/Carlson Gracie Virginia Beach, home to Antwain Britt. Watch the video interview below to find out what Brown thinks of his current run of success and his upcoming opponent. Brown also discusses his pre- and post-fight rituals and what he likes to eat after weighing in, and he also gives his picks for the main events of this week’s two UFC Fight Night cards. Photo: Matt Brown (Esther Lin/MMA Fighting) YawnSquad Oh hey look, another fat white dude pretending to be an MMA “Journalist.” Jesse Actually he’s a Mexican American, like Cain Velasquez, smart guy. Tim Atkins What so you have against white guys? Anyway you clearly watched the video for a reason. Is it not sweet to see an interview with Matt brown? You only like brown people? I guess that excludes our boy Matt! (Save for his last name tee hee) Mat Crawler Bro do you even lift? Jim GSP, Hendricks, and Brown are the only ones in the WHOLE UFC on 6+ fight winning streaks? Except for Barao, Weidman, Jones, Carmont, and arguably Rousey. But you were close. Bryan Henderson, Editor-in-Chief Justin was referring to the welterweight division. None of the other fighters you’ve listed are in that division. Jesse Hard to believe there are really people out there looking for mistakes to correct. Even harder to believe someone would want to correct you so bad they wouldn’t even notice their own errors, like understanding the the subtleties of talking about a specific weight division. Tim Atkins Awesome interview man! I like his fight picks, so far he is right! Tim Kennedy definitely won! Hope he’s right about Hendo… Mat Crawler I’ve been talking about Matt Brown for so long now. Glad he is finally coming up in the ranks, and on a tear! This guy has all the necessary skills to be the champ. Hendricks is great, might beat GSP. But Matt Brown has just as much killer instinct!
