In the night’s main event, UFC flyweight champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson rematched the man he defeated to earn the belt in the first place, Joseph Benavidez. The pair battled at UFC 152 in the finals of the promotion’s flyweight tournament, with Johnson escaping with a split decision win. Since then, Johnson had defended the belt twice, defeating John Moraga by submission and John Dodson via decision. Benavidez, meanwhile, had edged Ian McCall, Jussier da Silva and Darren Uyenoyama to earn another shot at the belt. Also on the Fox-broadcast main card, former WEC champion and UFC title challenger Urijah Faber faced off with the hard-hitting Michael McDonald with each looking for another chance to compete for bantamweight gold, former featherweight title challenger Chad Mendes took on fellow top-10 fighter Nik Lentz, and Ultimate Fighter alums Mac Danzig and Joe Lauzon went to war. The night’s action kicked off with a single fight on the promotion’s YouTube and Facebook pages starting at 4:30 p.m ET.
