Alvey defends against Swofford at  MFC 40

After claiming the MFC middleweight championship with a fifth-round finish of Jason South, MFC middleweight champion Sam Alvey will return to Maximum Fighting action at  MFC 40 to make the first defense of his crown. The opposition for Alvey comes in the form of Wes “Nile” Swofford, who owns wins in six of his last eight tilts. The middleweight title bout serves as one of three title fights on the bill for the May 9 bill, which also features MFC bantamweight champion Anthony Birchak vs. Kevin Croom, and a rematch between Kurt Southern and Tom Gallicchio with the MFC lightweight belt on the line.

Jung appointed as XFC CEO

Earlier this week, XFC announced Edward Jung as the new CEO of Xtreme Fighting Championships. Jung and his executive teams secured deals for a long-term partnership agreement  with REDE TV! in Brazil and Spanish live transmission on ESPN’s Latin American networks. As CEO, Jung will oversee all business in regards to XFC US, Canada, and XFC International, including that of the promotion’s strategic planning, among other things, thus helping the company to continue achieving a great deal of success in the MMA world.

Cariaso-Smolka, Horiguchi-Montague set for UFN: Cincinnati

When the UFC returns to Cincinnati on May 10, a pair of flyweight clashes will come with it. Chris Cariaso comes off of a unanimous-decision win over Danny Martinez at UFC 169 to face Louis Smolka, who earned a decision of his own over Alptekin Ozkilic at UFC Fight Night 35. Also, Kyoji Horiguchi drops down to 125 pounds after his knockout of Dustin Pague to take on Darrell Montague, who will look to rebound from a recent KO loss to John Dodson.

CWFC Fight Night 10 gets three new bouts

Cage Warriors Fight Night 10, live from the King Hussein Youth City Boxing Arena in Amman, Jordan, on March 28, just shaped up in a major way. The bout now features a middleweight bout between Allan Love and former Bellator MMA veteran Norman Paraisy, as well as a clash between flyweights Marcin Lasota and Paul Marin, and a collision of English featherweights when Dave Hill battles Liam James. The trio of exciting bouts join a previously-announced bout of Saul Rogers and John Maguire on the bill, which promises another memorable night of action in Jordan from the London-based promotion.

UFC 173 gets Holdsworth-Kang, Choi-Sicilia

The Ultimate Fighter 18 men’s bantamweight winner Chris Holdsworth will see his first bout since beating Davey Grant in the season 18 finale when he faces Kyung Ho Kang at UFC 173. Also, highly touted Doo Ho Choi rides a nine-fight winning streak into the Octagon as he faces Sam Sicilia, who will look to right his ship after recent losses in the UFC. It remains unknown whether or not these two fights will air as part of the Fox Sports 1 lineup prior to UFC 173, headlined by undefeated UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman’s second defense of the belt against former UFC light-heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort.
