Last week, The Ultimate Fighter 20 made its long-awaited debut on Fox Sports 1. Featuring 16 of the world’s top strawweights, the season would carry on a different format than previous seasons. While teams would still be coached by UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis and former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez, this season would feature a more organized “tournament” format.

The cast of 16 was seeded by the UFC, meaning that as a woman got selected by one of the coaches, the opposing coach would get the corresponding woman based on the seeding. This led to Pettis getting the likes of Carla Esparza, Jessica Penne, Felice Herrig, and Randa Markos, whereas Melendez picked up Angela Hill, Lisa Ellis, Heather Jo Clark, and Tecia Torres. As No. 14 Markos and No. 3 Torres corresponded to each other’s seeding, they would do the honors of competing in the first strawweight fight in The Ultimate Fighter’s history.

Markos certainly aimed to shock the world against “The Tiny Tornado”, an Invicta FC standout who had earned herself wins over the likes of Rose Namajunas, as well as Herrig, as part of the all-women’s MMA promotion, and was seen as a top contender to Esparza’s Invicta strawweight title before the announcement of this all-strawweight season, which will crown a new UFC strawweight champion when all is said and done.

Those that missed Markos vs. Torres can catch the fight in its entirety above, and be sure to catch The Ultimate Fighter 20 every Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT) on FOX Sports 1.
