On Thursday, the UFC announced a matchup between a pair of welterweight knockout artists in Thiago Alves and Jordan Mein has officially been added to UFC 183 in January. The two were originally scheduled to meet UFC Fight Night 49 before an injury forced Alves out of the bout.

Mein (29-9), a Strikeforce veteran, was last seen earning a first round TKO victory over Alves’ replacement Mike Pyle. Prior to this win ‘Stun Gun’ earned a close split decision victory over Hernani Perpétuo at UFC on FOX 11 in April 2014. This victory came after Mein spent a year on the shelf recovering from his TKO loss to Matt Brown at UFC on FOX 7 in April 2013. In a performance that awarded both men Fight of the Night honors, Brown fracture Mein’s nasal and orbital bones with a well-timed knee early in the second round. Mein will enter this bout 23 career stoppage victories, including 16 by way of knockout.

Alves (20-9), a former UFC title contender, is coming off a unanimous decision victory in his Fight of the Night performance against Seth Baczynski at UFC on FOX 11. Prior to this  win, ‘The Pitbull’ was last seen on the receiving end of a third round submission loss to Martin Kampann in their main event matchup at UFC on FX 2 back in March 2012. Following this loss, a series of injuries forced the American Top Team product out of two straight fights. He will enter this bout with 13 career stoppage victories, including 11 by way of knockout, and a UFC record of 12-6.

UFC 183 is currently scheduled to take place on January 31 in Las Vegas. A middleweight super fight between former champion Anderson Silva and fan favorite Nick Diaz will serve as the night’s main event. No other fights have been announced and a venue has yet to be named.
