The Ultimate Fighting Championship is in Austin, Texas this weekend for UFC Fight Night 57. The card is headlined by a featherweight contender bout between Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson.

Although there’s no championship belt on the line, Saturday’s free card is bound to be an exciting one. Featuring submission artists Alexey Oliynyk, Akbarh Arreola, and Juan Puig, we are sure to see some good submission grappling.

Strawweight Paige Vanzant also makes her debut against fellow UFC newcomer Kailin Curran. Offered a spot on TUF 20, the 20 year old Nevada native was unable to compete due to the show’s age restriction (contestants must be 21 years old due to the accessibility of alcohol in the house). She is likely to impress in her octagon debut.

Performance of the Night

Winner of Bobby Green vs Edson Barboza – In a fight between two of the best strikers currently fighting in the UFC, you have to expect the fight to end with a finish. Edson Barboza is a knockout artist who strikes with vicious intentions. And Bobby Green, although also known for his superior grappling, is a dangerously technical boxer. I have a feeling one of them will be going to sleep in spectacular fashion before the night is through.

Alexey Oliynyk – This man is nicknamed “The Boa Constrictor” for good reason. Of his 40 submission victories, 33 came by some sort of chokehold variation. Jared Rosholt is unprepared for the grappling prowess of Oliynyk. Despite his wrestling background, Rosholt has a less than 50% success rate defending takedown attempts and has never scored a sweep or submission.

Fight of the Night

Frankie Edgar vs. Cub Swanson – As the headlining fight this may seem like the obvious choice, but Edgar and Swanson are bound to steal the show. They are both technical strikers, with very different styles: Edgar leaning towards speed and boxing while Swanson relies more on power and evasiveness. Regardless of whose hand will be raised at the end of the night, UFC fans are in for an action-packed main event.
