The finale of the The Ultimate Fighter 20 takes place live this Friday from The Pearl at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The season’s title was, “A Champion Will be Crowned” and that is precisely what will happen tomorrow night.

For the first time in TUF history, the season finalists will not only be competing for the honor of being a season winner, but to be the inaugural UFC strawweight champion as well.

The finale is headlined by a competitive bout between Carla Esparza and Rose Namajunas. Both women have earned their way to this point and one of them will leave the Palms Casino as the first UFC strawweight champion. This entire fight card will air on Fox Sports 1 except the early prelims which can be aired via UFC Fight Pass.

Let’s breakdown the match ups and make predictions for the night.

Main Card Breakdown & Predictions

TUF Finale and Strawweight title: Carla Esparza vs. Rose Namajunas

In the main event of the evening, the former Invicta FC strawweight champ will be pitted against the relative newbie, but talented Rose Namajunas. Esparaza didn’t have much trouble in her journey to the finale and has a wrestling aptitude that Namajunas has yet to deal with.

Namajunas  may be the most improved of all the contestants since leaving Invicta to join the UFC. Her striking is crisp and she manages to put some serious power into each attack she throws.

Combine her ability to deliver damage from anywhere in the stand up with her quick reflex to grab a submission, it could spell trouble for Esparza. Esparza has the experience, but it may not be enough to deal with Namajunas’ well rounded and finish friendly game.

Prediction: Rose Namajunas wins by submission. Round 3.

Featherweight: Jeremy Stephens vs. Charles Oliveira

Jeremy Stephens has been in the UFC since 2007 and has had his fair share of ups and downs.

After dropping down to featherweight, he has found success defeating Rony Jason and Darren Elkins, but he found himself on the wrong side of a decision against Cub Swanson in his last outing.

Charles Oliveira also used to fight at lightweight and made his way down to featherweight to see if he could find more success. Unfortunately, he was faced with Cub Swanson and Frankie Edgar and lost against both. Since that time he has strung together two victories over Hatsu Hioki and Andy Ogle, both by submission.

Both men are fighting to gain better footing in a stacked division and both have a history of finishing fights. Stephens proved in his bout against Swanson that he is dangerous until the very end and possesses knockout power, but Oliveira has great striking defense and is on a different level in the grappling department.

Prediction: Charles Oliveira wins by submission. Round 2.

Lightweight: Daron Cruickshank vs. K.J. Noons

Daron Cruickshank is coming off of a decision victory over Anthony Njokuani, but since 2013 he has compiled a 4-3 record. Far from consistent, but always exciting Cruickshank has striking that makes him very unpredictable.

K.J. Noons is a very dynamic striker with a background in karate, boxing and kickboxing. He has aspirations of being a two-sport champion in professional boxing as well as MMA.

After finding himself on a three fight losing streak during his transition from Strikeforce to the UFC, he was able to score wins over Sam Stout and George Sotiropoulos.

He hasn’t fought since April of this year and in a recent interview on The MMA Hour he explained that he was taking time off from fighting to be available to help with his new born child. He is now back to training full time and looking to get back into the mix by tacking on another victory to his current two fight streak.

Ultimately, this fight can end quickly with both men having elite level striking skills, but Noons has the skill set to nullify Cruickshank and get the better of him in the technical striking department.

Prediction: K.J. Noons wins by decision.

Lightweight: Yancy Medeiros  vs. Joe Proctor

Medeiros is a Strikeforce import with a total record of ten wins and two losses. Coming into the UFC, he was a hot prospect and was immediately thrown into the fire. He faced a murderers’ row in Jim Miller and Rustam Khabilov; losing to both of them. In a do or die situation he welcomed Damon Jackson to the UFC and found his way to victory via an impressive reverse bulldog choke.

Joe Proctor has an identical record to Medeiros, but he is sitting a little more comfortably in the division as he has gone 3-1 since joining the UFC. His level of competition hasn’t been the same level as Medeiros though and that may be the key difference in this fight.

Medeiros seemed like a different man in his fight against Jackson and proved that he has some serious skills on the ground. Proctor has found his way to victory twice by knockout and once by decision.  It’s unlikely that Proctor will be able to finish Medeiros and it would be dangerous for him to take it to the ground after witnessing what Medeiros did against Jackson.

Prediction: Yancy Medeiros wins by TKO. Round 2.

Strawweight: Jessica Penne vs. Randa Markos

Jessica Penne proved to be in the top tier of the division on the show, but in the end she couldn’t solve the riddle that is Carla Esparza in the semifinals. A well rounded fighter with decent striking and high level jiu-jitsu, she comes into the cage this Friday with thirteen professional fights under her belt.

Randa Markos also proved herself on the show. She has good striking ability, but it is mostly used to set up takedowns. Penne can pull off a submission or possibly utilize her reach to limit the takedowns from Markos, but it’s unlikely. Markos is relentless and unpredictable, while Penne is more poised and technical.

Prediction: Randa Markos wins by decision.
