Joe Riggs (Dave Mandel/Sherdog)j6zkBbHQd-IThe MMA Corner Fight of the Week: Patrick Cote vs. Joe Riggs RJ Gardner April 22, 2015 Events, Spotlight Unlike other professional sports, there is no offseason in MMA. Week in and week out fight cards all over the world are taking place. Some weeks there will be major fight cards filled with big name fighters ,while others not so much. Nonetheless there are fights taking place every week. Regardless of whether the fighters are household names or not, The MMA Corner will preview the best fight taking place during the week. This week’s Fight of the Week is a UFC welterweight clash between Patrick Cote and Joe Riggs. UFC 186’s fight card has been put through the ringer over the past month and it is a shell of what it once was. But there are still a few interesting bout on the card that fans at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada will surely appreciate; especially the marquee prelim bout between Cote and Riggs. Granted there are bouts on this card with more meaning but none have the potential to be as exciting at this matchup. Riggs and Cote might not be contenders anymore, but they are two grizzled veteran journeymen who know how to put on a show. Riggs and Cote are going to stand in the pocket and they are going to go at it with ferocity. It won’t be the great display of technical brilliance others might put on, but it will be entertaining. As much as MMA has developed from a technical standpoint, Riggs vs. Cote will be a throwback fight to the gritty and intense days of the UFC.
