Michelle Waterson (Esther Lin/Invicta FC)Is Michelle Waterson a Threat at 115 Pounds? Jessica Doerner May 6, 2015 News, Spotlight Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson just signed to the UFC 115 pound division. Will she be a threat to the division? I believe she will not only be a threat, but a huge draw to the UFC’s ratings. The Karate Hottie has already made a name for herself in Invicta and has also starred in a few reality shows. She was also featured in a Megadeth music video, so she is no stranger to a little stardom. She trains out of Team Jackson, which has a number of UFC fighters already training there. She has talked in the past about putting on more muscle, making her heavier when it comes time to cut weight. She was featured in several articles when the UFC first announced the addition of the 115-pound weight class as someone they should sign. I don’t necessarily believe she will be outsized or out-muscled at 115 pounds. She is coming off a loss, so it’s likely she will have a fire lit from that to come back with a bang, looking for a platinum play. I believe she has made a smart career move in signing with the UFC. Michelle is 5’3’’, so she is not much shorter compared to most of the 115-pound division. She submitted Jessica Penne in 2013 by armbar. Penne is 5’5” and a veteran of the sport, so Waterson has proved she can hang with the taller, heavier fighters. Penne, who also fought at 105 and moved up to 115 pounds, is arguably one of the top 5 strawweights in the world, or at least in the UFC. Could Waterson develop into a Ronda Rousey like draw for the UFC’s strawweight division? Only time will tell. Juchi Hope you’re right Jessica, but coming off a loss and moving up in weight may not bode well for our Karate Hottie. Charle She has excellent striking with hands and leg kicks. Also good footwork…hopefully she has been training to increase her muscle mass and power…If she is able to make those adjustments then she could be a very interesting fight for JJ Champion. The other plus is the Karate Hottie has an outstanding ground game. Her striking is at a level that could challenge JJ but to use the strategy to use striking to transition JJ to the ground would be the best…Key factor is Waterson’s needs improved strength and size to make that difference.
