Shawn Porter (Twitter/@ShowtimeShawnP)PBC on NBC: Adrien Broner vs. Shawn Porter Preview Justin Fuller June 19, 2015 Events, News, Previews, Spotlight This Saturday, two top-10 fighters in the form of Adrien Broner (30-1, 22 KOs) and Shawn Porter (25-1-1, 16 KOs) will square off in a 144-lbs catchweight bout in Las Vegas for Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), which will air live on NBC, with the preliminary bouts on NBC Sport Network. The bout is highly anticipated and expected to help continue the growth of the new televised boxing endeavor that is PBC. Broner was once on the short list of potential Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. opponents until those hopes were derailed by Marcos Maidana in December of 2013. Maidana would go on to fight Mayweather not once, but twice, coming up short in both encounters. Broner, by contrast, has racked together three straight wins against lesser competition, setting himself up for not only a bigger name fight, but potentially the biggest name in the fight game later this year. While Broner may have his sights set on bigger fish, Porter is primed to derail those plans and looks to regain his own prestige in the welterweight division. Porter’s only loss is a controversial majority decision to current IBF champion Kell Brooks, who has yet to defend his title against a worthy opponent. Porter is the bigger welterweight coming into this bout, and while catchweights tend to advantage the smaller fighter, his definitive size advantage will be challenging nonetheless for the natural 140-lbs Broker. As we continue to move past the wake of the Mayweather-Pacquiao disappointment, and all eyes seem to be focused on the middleweight division with breakaway stars like Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Glolovkin, it is refreshing to see new light shed on the welterweight division, which has traditionally been the most exciting and star-packed outside of the heavyweights. Broner vs. Porter it scheduled to take place Saturday, June 20 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It will air live on NBC at 8:30 pm EST/5:30 pm PST. Be sure to check your local listings.
