(José Youngs/The MMA Corner)N-bpByHvAZsFight of the Week: Ronda Rousey vs. Bethe Correia RJ Gardner July 29, 2015 Events, Spotlight Unlike other professional sports, there is no offseason in MMA. Week in and week out fight cards all over the world are taking place. Some weeks there will be major fight cards filled with big name fighters others not so much, but there are fights taking place every week. Regardless of whether the fighters are household names or not, The MMA Corner will preview the best fight taking place during the week. This week’s ‘Fight of the Week’ is the UFC women’s bantamweight title fight between Ronda Rousey and Bethe Correia. On Saturday, August 1, 2015, the UFC heads to the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, for UFC 190 where women’s bantamweight champion Rousey will look to defend her title for the sixth time against undefeated Brazilian Correia. Gritty and tough Correia is a talented fighter, but she doesn’t excel in any one area that would give the champion trouble. There’s a reason Correia is a massive underdog heading into this bout. It’s not that she isn’t a capable fighter, it’s that Rousey is simply that good. Don’t tune into this fight expecting to see two evenly matched opponents square off. Watching this fight is about watching true excellence. Rousey is on a different level than her competition and even though she runs through her opposition, fans should take the time to appreciate her skills. Athletes as dominant as Rousey don’t come along very often and they are gone before you know it. Crazier things have happened in MMA and everyone has a punchers chance with four ounce gloves, but don’t tune in expecting to see a huge upset. This fight is about Rousey continuing her string of dominance over the women’s bantamweight division.
