(Esther Lin/MMAFighting)hUtOIUMzzJgFight of the Week: Glover Teixeira vs. Ovince St. Preux RJ Gardner August 5, 2015 Events, Previews, Spotlight Unlike other professional sports, there is no offseason in MMA. Week in and week out fight cards all over the world are taking place. Some weeks there will be major fight cards filled with big name fighters others not so much, but there are fights taking place every week. Regardless of whether the fighters are household names or not, The MMA Corner will preview the best fight taking place during the week. This week’s Fight of the Week is a UFC light heavyweight fight between Glover Teixeira and Ovince St. Preux. On Saturday, August 8, 2015, the UFC heads to the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, for UFC Fight Night 73 where light heavyweight contenders Teixeira and St. Preux will square off. Having lost back-to-back fights, this is a pivotal bout for Teixeira. Even though a third loss likely wouldn’t be a death nail for his UFC career, it would all but eliminate him from future title contention. A BJJ black belt with a tremendous technical boxing game, Teixeira is by far the better fighter on paper heading into Saturday. St. Preux on the other hand is coming off of back-to-back first round knockout victories; arguably the most impressive victories of his career. A former NCAA Division I football player, St. Preux’s explosive athleticism has long been his most dangerous weapon. But now that he is tightening up his technical ability, St. Preux has the look of a future title contender. Teixeira and St. Preux may be heading in different directions at this point in time, but don’t sleep on Teixeira. Although he has lost two in a row, he is as tough and dangerous as they come. This will be a huge test for St. Preux and should he win he could find himself in a number one contender bout by the end of the year.
