Bellator 141: Draft Ops Fantasy MMA Guide RJ Gardner August 26, 2015 Bellator, Bellator Events, Events, Previews, Promotions, Spotlight Every week, Draft Ops offers a slew of daily fantasy sports games for real money and now that MMA is part of action fight fans have been flocking to the site to try their hand at fantasy MMA. As such, we here at The MMA Corner want to help our readers finish in the money so every fight week we will offer up tips and advice for putting together your Draft Ops Fantasy MMA contest lineups. Before we get into this week’s guide, let’s review the basics of Fantasy MMA. For each contest, participants will be given the opportunity to select three to five fighters (type of contest will determine roster size). The fighter pool will consist of all fighters expected to be competing in the upcoming event. Fighters score points in two ways. First there is move scoring; +1 for significant strikes, +0.5 for advancing position, +2 for takedowns, +3 for reversals or sweeps and +4 for knockdowns. Then there are fight conclusion bonuses; +150 for a first round win, +100 for a second round win, +75 for a third round win, +50 for a fourth round win, +50 for a fifth-round win and +25 for a decision win. Fight scoring will be based on FightMetric statistical data. Winning/placing is based on the total score of your five fight lineup. On tap for this week’s Fantasy MMA contests is Bellator 141: Guillard vs. Girtz. First and foremost, the most important key to putting together a winning Fantasy MMA lineup is, understanding the true value of win bonuses. When you are selecting your fighters, always make sure to take fighters you believe will win the fight. At the end of the contest, those win bonuses add up and they separate the contest winners from the losers. Sleeper Pick of the Week Having been out of action for the past five years, heavyweight Justin Wren is going to be overlooked by many heading into Friday; don’t make that mistake. The former TUF contestant is a dangerous fighter with nine of his 10 career wins coming by stoppage. Taking on a 37 year old, 8-8 fighter who has been stopped in all eight of his career losses means one thing; a triumphant return to MMA for Wren. Lock of the Week Take Melvin Guillard over Brandon Girtz in the main event of the evening. A lot can be said about Guillard and his wasted talent, but one this is certain; he still is one of the most physically gifted fighters in the lightweight division. Girtz is tough and experienced but he has never faced someone on Guillard’s level. Look for Guillard to win in spectacular fashion.
