Unlike other professional sports, there is no offseason in combat sports. Week in and week out fight cards all over the world are taking place. Some weeks there will be major fight cards filled with big name fighters others not so much, but there are fights taking place every week.

Regardless of whether the fighters are household names or not, The MMA Corner will preview the best fight taking place during the week.

This week’s Fight of the Week is the WSOF heavyweight title bout between champion Blagoy Ivanov and challenger Derrick Mehmen.

On Saturday, October 17, 2015 the WSOF heads to the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT for World Series of Fighting 24: Fitch vs. Okami.

Jon Fitch and Yushin Okami may be the headlining attraction on Saturday night but the fight fans should be most excited for is the heavyweight class between Blagoy and Mehmen; two of the world’s best heavyweights outside of the UFC.

Looking for his first title defense Blagoy enters this bout coming off of an impressive submission victory over former champion Smealinho Rama. At 12-1 with 1 no contest in his pro MMA career Blagoy has shown that he is more than capable of winning a fight no matter where it takes place.

Mehmen on the other hand enters this bout looking for redemption. In his first quest for WSOF gold Mehmen was knocked out by Rama in the first round. Now, coming off of a big win over Brett Rogers, Mehmen and his heavy hands will be looking for a better outcome.

With 23 combined stoppage victories between then this heavyweight class has the potential to be explosive.
