In the night’s main event, fans witnessed a fight between two of the top rising stars in the welterweight division as Neil Magny took on Kelvin Gastelum. Following his stint on the Ultimate Fighter: Team Carwin vs. Team Nelson, Magny (16-4), got off to a slow start, going 1-2 in his first three fights. However, following a tough loss to Seth Baczynski at UFC Fight For The Troops 3, Magny turned his fighting career around, reeling off seven straight victories before losing to Damian Maia at UFC 190. Gastelum (12-1), was also a veteran of the Ultimate Fighter winning his season Team Jones vs. Team Sonnen with a decision victory over highly touted Uriah Hall. From there, Gastelum has improved in every performance, dominating all of his competition except for Tyrone Woodley, where Gastelum showed up badly out of shape and missed weight before losing a split decision. Gastelum rebounded nicely with a beat down of Nate Marquardt at UFC 188. Tonight, however, Gastelum looked to prove to the UFC and fight fans that he is a force at welterweight. In the co-main event, Diego Sanchez became only the second fighter in UFC history to fight in four different weight classes as he made his debut in the featherweight division against former title contender Ricardo Lamas.
