According to report from Brazilian media out Combate, the UFC is targeting a featherweight contest between former bantamweight champion Renan Barão and Jeremy Stephens for a future fight card in Brazil on May 29

Barão (33-3) will be moving up win weight class after several years of dominance as a member of the UFC’s 135-pound division. Against Stephens, the Nova Uniao product in desperate need of a win after suffering a fourth round TKO loss to former champion T.J. Dillashaw in their main event title fight at UFC on FOX 16 last July.

This marked Barão’s second loss to Dillashaw with their initial fight ending in a fifth round knockout loss for the Brazilian. Between losses to his former rival, Barão picked up a third round submission win over Mitch Gagnon. He will enter this contest with 23 career stoppage wins, including 15 by way of submission.

Stephens (23-12) will also be looking to right his ship after dropping a decision to Max Holloway at UFC 194 in December. Prior to this setback, fans witnessed “Lil’ Heathen” decimate Dennis Bermudez with a third round flying knee at UFC 189. This win snapped, Stephens’s 16th career knockout win.
