Striking 8/10

Tate isn’t a natural striker, but she has put in the time and as a result has improved greatly on the feet. Since joining the UFC, her footwork has improved, her technique has become crisper and she now moves with more fluidity. But she does eat way too many shots to be considered elite.

Wrestling/Grappling 9/10

If you just look at her FightMetric numbers, you would assume that Tate’s ground game is underwhelming; but numbers can be deceiving. When you actually watch Tate she is deliberate, methodical and technically sound. She has great balance on the feet and once the fight hits the ground she knows how to win scrambles and come out on top.

Submissions 8/10

Tate is a savvy grappler and she has a great feel for the ground game. She may not be the most technically advanced submission artist but she has the basics down. If an opponent gives Tate an opening she is quick to recognize it and take advantage.

Athleticism/Conditioning 8/10

While not the most physically gifted athlete Tate compensates by being in excellent shape come fight night. Tate can set and maintain and incredible pace that few can match; Tate can win fights with her conditioning alone.

Fight IQ 10/10

Tate’s rise to the top of the UFC women’s bantamweight division was surprising because she is far from being the most danger fighter in her division as she has plenty of flaws in her game. But between her toughness, grit and mental acuity Tate stands atop of the division. She is always prepared and she wins fights because of her ability to make adjustments as the fight is happening; not many people have that ability.

Overall 43/50
