The MMA promotion revealed that the fights will happen on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The site will stage several cards this coming July 11. UFC 251 is packed with big fights, headlined by the fight between Usman and Burns. Other fights include Volkanovski vs. Holloway, Yan vs. Aldo, Abdurakhimov vs. Gane, VanZant vs. Ribas, Edgar vs. Munhoz, and Oezdemir vs. Procházka. UFC Welterweight Championship: Usman vs. Burns The welterweight championship bout between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns is set to headline UFC 251 this July 11. Usman is set to defend his welterweight title. Usman came from his first title defense against Colby Covington in the UFC 245 last December, winning after five rounds. Another big win for his career was winning against Tyron Woodley. “The Nigerian Nightmare” Usman has not lost any fight since 2013, with a record of 11-0. Overall, his record is 16-1. He was expected to face Jorge Masvidal. However, Masvidal was recently involved in a rift with UFC about contractual matters. Thus, making way for a fight against Burns. “Durinho” Burns has been a hot topic for the last 10 months since moving to the welterweight division. He has a record of 4-0 in this division, with wins against Demian Maia, Tyron Woodley, Gunner Nelson, and Alexey Kuncheko. Burns is fast and strong at 170 pounds. He has good striking capabilities and his ground game is world-class. He now poses a big challenge for the reigning champion. UFC Featherweight Championship: Volkanovski vs. Holloway The fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway is the much-awaited rematch in UFC 251. Volkanovski defeated Holloway last December at the UFC 245 in a featherweight match. Volkanovski dominated over Holloway, winning the championship after five rounds via a unanimous decision. He then became the second Australian champion in UFC history. Volkanovski won 18 straight fights after he got defeated by Corey Nelson in 2013 via a technical knockout. He defeated Chad Mendes, Jose Aldo, and Darren Elkins, among others. These wins made him face Holloway. Holloway, on the other hand, has no defeats in the featherweight division for the 13 fights before he was defeated by Dustin Poirier in 2019. He successfully defended his title against Brian Ortega, Jose Aldo, and Frankie Edgar. Their last fight against each other is something to be remembered. Holloway started slow, while Volkanovski got off to a strong start. Volkanovski’s persistent leg kicks made him stand out against Holloway. The former’s performance earned him unanimous votes from the judges. Both players are competitive and promising. If you want to bet on either one of them, then click here. UFC Bantamweight Championship: Yan vs. Aldo Petr Yan and Jose Aldo will fight for the vacant bantamweight championship belt, following the retirement of former champion Henry Cejudo. Yan came off from a total knockout win against Urijah Faber. Yan has a record of 14-1, making him look dominant since joining two years ago. His notable wins were against John Dodson, Jimmie Rivera, and Urijah Faber. He was dubbed as a very strong bantamweight with good striking skills. Aldo, on the other hand, has lost two consecutive fights with a record of 0-1 in the bantamweight division. Many think that he does not deserve to be in this fight and that he only got a shot in this fight because of Henry Cejudo. Cejudo ended up fighting Dominick Cruz due to COVID restrictions, instead of fighting Aldo. This fight is intriguing on many levels. Aldo is taking a shot against one of the best bantamweight players in the UFC. If Aldo wins, then he will become the eighth UFC fighter in UFC history to hold a belt in two different weight classes. Heavyweight bout: Abdurakhimov vs. Gane Ciryl Gane and Shamil Abdurakhimov were initially set to fight in the UFC 249. However, the fight did not happen due to Gane’s pneumothorax. Gane is undefeated and is coming off from a win against Tanner Boser. Abdurakhimov, on the other hand, has won over the likes of Andrei Arlovski, Walt Harris, and Marcin Tybura. Women’s Flyweight bout: VanZant vs. Ribas This fight was rescheduled due to an arm injury of Paige VanZant. VanZant has a record of 8-4. She only has one fight left in her contract with the UFC promotion and has not fought since her win in 2019. Amanda Ribas, on the other hand, fought against Randa Markos in the meantime with a decision win. Her record is 9-1. Bantamweight bout: Edgar vs. Munhoz This fight will be Frankie Edgar’s bantamweight debut. Edgar decided to take a shot in the bantamweight division after losing on his third attempt to win the featherweight belt against Max Holloway in 2019. He currently has a record of 23-8-1. “The Young Punisher” Munhoz, on the other hand, has won three of his last four fights, including his historical win over Cody Garbrandt in the UFC 235. His current record is 18-4. Light Heavyweight bout: Oezdemir vs. Procházka This fight will be the UFC debut fight of Jiri Prochazka. Before signing to UFC, he had 10 winning streaks in his record. Conversely, Volkan Oezdemir has a record of 17 wins and 4 losses. He won back-to-back fights against Aleksander Rakic and Ilir Latifi after his three UFC losses. Takeaway UFC 251 is only a few weeks away. Bettors and other MMA fans are getting excited to know who will be the champions and winners for the different fight cards. As mentioned, the event will take place on Yas Island this coming July 11, 2020.
