The UFC continues with show after show, following the extended hiatus just to the coronavirus pandemic. Something that has resulted in endless troubles for sports, who are now looking to return. Another recent show took place in the UFC Apex arena in Las Vegas. This saw former Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley return from an extended lay-off against Gilbert Burns, as both looked to gain another title shot.

Woodley was making his first appearance since losing his title back at UFC 235 in March of 2019 against the still champion Kamaru Usman. That fight ended his unbeaten run that dated back to 2014 and seven fights, with previous victories against the likes of Robbie Lawler, Stephen Thompson, Demian Maia and Darren Till. The latter one of his best performance in a completely dominant performance. However, he was then beaten via unanimous decision against Usman, in a very one-side performance. This led to the current extended break and he was hoping to return his an impressive victory against Gilbert Burns at the UFC on ESPN 9.

Woodley was against beaten via unanimous decision, with Burns posting a hugely impressive performance, which has now set him up for a title shot against Usman. The latter is the overwhelming favourite and is already being supported by punters using betfair free spins promo code that are on offer. Woodley’s record now dropped to 19 wins and five losses with one draw, and could this now be the end for the 38 year old in the sport? If he does return again later this year, then it will be nearly two years without a victory, so it appears a tough road for him to return to a title shot in the future.

On the other hand, the Brazilian Gilbert Burns continues his journey to the top and now has a title shot in the welterweight division. The 33 year old extended his record to 19 wins and three losses with the victory over Woodley and is now unbeaten in his last six fights, with the run dating back to July of 2018. This includes victories over Gunnar Nelson, Demian Maia and of course Woodley, to name just a few. He continues to improve with each performance and this most recent victory is one to note.

Could Burns now shock Usman? It certainly now sets up for an exciting future ahead, with the welterweight division continuing to go from strength to strength.
